March 2006: Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Laurence Fishburne have donated custom-made motorikes to help raise money for a planned memorial for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The stars gave their bikes, with Affleck actually giving two, for the online charity auction charityfolks.com. Jennifer Lopez also gave a pair of her wedge-heeled shoes while Tom Hanks gave signed DVDs of his movies 'Catch Me If You Can' and 'Polar Express'. Work is due to start later this year on the monument for the civil rights' leader in the U.S. capital, Washington D.C. The auction was organized by Brad Pitt's Se7en star Morgan Freeman who said of King: "He's remembered as our prince of peace, of civil rights. We owe him something major that will keep him and his memory alive."
February 13, 2006 - Jennifer Lopez is urging Hispanics to help save the life of a 29-year-old Latina. Janet Ovalles needs a transplant from a matching donor to survive, but there are no matches among the 10 million donors registered worldwide. Ovalles hopes that Lopez can inspire people to help her. There will be bone marrow drives in New York on the 24th and 25th of February.
